Big trucks. L oud trucks. And beer.
Some of the filler events were... fun but awkward, bordering on silly . The 8 drivers raced each other on ATVs, and then later raced again in side-by-sides. I think it would have been better to have other people (or fans!) racing instead of treating the drivers like clowns, but maybe the hard-core fans want to root for their guy or gal . I enjoyed watching the skid loader drivers put the course back together after each event, but I’m probably weird that way.
I really appreciated the recovery tractor. I need one of those when off-roading.
Quality isn’t great, but here’s a screen-shot of
a video of Grave Digger doing a back flip. That guy has no respect for his truck or his internal organs. “One foot on the gas, one foot in the grave” indeed. Not surprisingly he “won”, although several of the events were fan-decided, so I suspect he always has an edge. I am impressed that they put on three shows this weekend; I’d love to hang out in the pits and see what kind of mad R&R skills the crews have. Does anyone know if they have duplicate trucks, or just a trailer full of spare fiberglass body panels, suspension parts, and axles?
Overall it was a fun night, well worth the money. Definitely better than staying home and watching people yell at each other on cable news, but maybe I should try doing that with ear plugs in too....

I took my son to the jam when he was 10. It was one of those been-there-done-that experiences. To be fair, they were pretty cramped in the Baton Rouge River Center arena. It’s amazing that they could do anything in such a small space. Anyway, we had fun but haven’t been back.

Sounds like a way better show than the Hot Wheels one I went to last week. Thanks for the review!

I agree; next time they come through I’ll see if the kids want to go but I won’t be pushing for it.

Your review is what inspired me to write this one! I passed a merch booth with toys for sale and thought of the Hot Wheels show

I’ ve seen some sort of video of the pits at a monster truck event, and crews were literally rebuilding engines. The engines in these things are basically top-fuel drag racing engine. They run on methanol and make many thousands of horsepower. So add that sort of maintenance to all the destruction.

Sounds like you experienced what I did in Cleveland. On your point of the drivers competing in all of the other vehicles, they score all of those events. I think they’ ve been doing that lately because smaller arenas can only do so much with the giant trucks. There’s the two wheel competition, donut competition, race, and freestyle. They only bring a handful of trucks (6 i think it was for me), to save on travel and freight. What stood out to me was the announcers constantly calling the drivers athletes. It kind of was overbearing how often they explained how athletic the drivers are. It got to a point where the crowd around us (parents of kids mostly) stated chanting “Ath-lete” after every run.
